With the advent of the new social era, the interplays between formal and informal elements of organiza- tions have become more important. Mainstream theory often separates to discuss formal and informal factors of or- ganizations. Furthermore, a few studies of the interplay between formal and informal networks of organizations are still stuck in the concept of incomplete definition and the static level of research relationships, which is diffi- cult to reflect the overall picture of interplays between formal and informal networks of organizations. CAS theo- ry provides us with a new way of thinking. Therefore, the study is ready to analyze related issues which enterpri- ses adapt to the environment with the help of interplays between formal and informal networks of organizations by using mixed research methods based on CAS perspective. Firstly, we will prepare a complete definition of the types of interplay between formal and informal networks of organizations by learning from the concept of 'legal system' and 'shadow system'. Secondly, we will analyze the impact of interplays between formal and informal net- works of organizations on organizational adaptation according to the concept of 'order', 'chaos' and 'disorder'. Final- ly, we will explore the mechanism and contingency conditions of the above-mentioned relationships based on the theory of 'edge of chaos', 'creative space', 'the match between the complexity of system and the complexity of en- vironment'. We hope to promote the study of the integration of formal and informal factors and attract more inte- rests of the mainstream theories, and fill fundamentally the gap of the existing research on the concept of incom- plete definition and the static level of research relationships, and provide guidance of the design of formal and in- formal networks to adapt to the environment for management practices.
