Adiponectin is derived from adipose tissue , and plays an increasingly important role in antidi-abetic,anti-atherogenic and anti-inflammatory process.There are three species circulating in the bloodstream：trimeric,hexameric and high-molecular-weight polymer.Different forms of adiponectin have different functions in the regulation of energy homoeostasis.The studies on the mechanisms regulating adiponectin gene tran-scription,multimerization and secretion may provide new therapeutic targets for for the treatment of insulin resistance,type 2 diabetes and other obesity-related metabolic disorders.
