Objective To compare the changes of serum water-soluble vitamins in patients with T2DM among three commonly used antidiabetic drugs. Methods The hospitalized T2DM patients meeting the study conditions were divided into groups A (metformin),B (glimepiride),C (acarbose) and D (control group, matching any hypoglycemic drugs),twenty cases in each group. No significant differences in blood sugar, complications and associated symptoms were found.Hospital diabetic diet was unifiedly arranged by clinical nutrition department. The diets in four groups have no significant difference.VB1,VB6,VB12,VC and folic acid in both serum and urine were examined before and five days after hospitalization. Results FPG is lower in four groups after treatment than before treatment (P〈0.05).There were statistically significant differences in changes of FPG among groups (P〈0.05).2 hPG is lower in four groups after treatment than before treatment (P〈0.05).There were statistically significant differences in changes of 2 hPG among groups (P〈0.05).The levels of serum VB1,VB6,VB12,VC and folic acid were lower after treatment than before treatment in groups A,C and D (P〈0.05) except for group B.The levels of serum VB1,VB6,VB12,VC and folic acid showed no significant differences between four groups.Urinary levels of VB1,VB6,VB12,VC and folic acid showed statistically significant differences in pre-versus post-treatment in four groups (P〈0.05).The levels of urinary VB1,VB6,VB12,VC and folic acid showed no significant differences between four groups. Conclusion It should be noted that the using of acarbose and metformin may disturb the serum level of water-soluble vitamins.
