Writing and painting brush making in Huzhou originated from the Jin and Tang Dynasty, and after the mid - Ming Dynasty it gradually gained its prosperity. The taste of interior deeoration in the Ming Dynasty led to the innovation in calligraphy and painting and also had an effect on the artists＇ decision on the brush choosing, which was a very important factor of the popularity of the brushes made of goat hair. Hu brush making had a never - seen before prosperity in the Ming Dynasty, which was a combining effect of several social factors as the localization of the raw materials, the forming of the brush makers group and the sprouting of the marketing.
