The referee of a basketball match is not only the judge of the rules but also the controller of the match.The referee controls the match by the whistle,language,gestures and other ways to guarantee the match going on smoothly.This article expatiates on the status quo of violation,foul,characteristics of motivation and control for the referee.It can be seen that the control of a basketball match is actually the control of the coaches,athletes,team members and the control to the violations and foul.The control is based on the basketball rules and related explanation.The control can be divided into three categories：leading the game,strictly controlling the game and not controlling the game.In different situations,referee uses language,whistles and body movements,adopting criticism,warning,reprimanding,and punishment to resolve the main contradictions,and to avoid the escalation of the conflicts,to protect personal safety,and to prevent the coercive power of intervention,so as to ensure a fair competition.
