As a new type of electronic map （E-map）, the scientific popularization E-map conveys rich information to the users. Xu Xiake Travel E-map, which combines travel notes in time order with maps indicating travel process, intensively introduces the adventure life of Xu Xiake, and embodies his spirit of humanism with various multimedia materials, such as pictures, videos and music. Through the discussion of the design of Xu Xiake E-map, this paper puts forward several basic principles and schemes to implement a scientific popularization Emap, and brings more ideological connotation to E-map by using space-time index lechnology.
