Biological aerated filter （BAF） is favoured for its high treatment ability, strong resistance to shock loading and unique biodegradation process. Some key problems such as technical principle, operation rules, carriers, backwashing and so on in the application of BAF are analyzed. The present research status on biofacies characteristic of BAF and its dynamic model are summarized.
