Based on the detailed analysis on situation and existing problems of land subsidence in most cities in the Changjiang River Delta, North China Plain, Guanzhong Plain, Huabei Plain and the Songuen Plain, we propound the guiding idea, principles, staged and final objectives of the land subsidence survey and monitoring. We also propose the prevention strategy in respect of the specific situation in China.
