The occupational exposure of coke oven workers could lead to cytogenetic damage, which is one of the major mechanisms of tumor. Recent studies have found that certain gene polymorphisms of individuals could affect the degree of genetic damage, and plays an important role in the development of disease induced by coke oven emissions. Here is to make a review on the recent studies of gene polymorphisms on cytogenetic damage to provide a basis of health protection for susceptible individuals and screening of high risk of occupational exposure workers.
