Objective To discuss the application of research on the substantial base of acupuncture effects in target discovery. Methods In retrospect the technical strategies of current target discovery and the characteristics of the research on the substantial base of acupuncture effects, the applicable value of research on the substantial base of acupuncture effects in target discovery was analyzed. Results Based on the clinical effects, applying research on the substantial base of acupuncture effects into target discovery should increase the validation rate in drug discovery. Conclusion Research on the substantial base of acupuncture effects is a new selection in target discovery.
