Huang Shisan is known as a Confucian scholar and historian in late Qing Dynasty. His posthumous manuscript Phonology Summary （Yin Yun Bu Lue ） is one of his magnum opus on the phonology of ancient Chinese, which has a great value of storage. This manuscript was once collected by Fenghuatang in Hangzhou city and Mr. Zhu Dingxu, and later it has been kept intact in Tianyige Library in Ningbo City.
