The art of relationship management is to sustain a proper tie. The tie too weak damages firms' cooperation, whereas the tie excessive strong confines firms' development. To get rid of such a dilemma, a mode of dynamic regulation of relationship tie is advanced. Managers cannot directly control the functionality of ties, but they can alter the trajectory of those informal processes through changes in formal mechanisms that periodically alter tie strength.
