Calcium lipase A2 (iPLA2) is a independent phospho subfamily of phospho- lipase A2 (PLAe), which plays an important role in signal transduction and phospholipid remode ling. Although PLA2 enzymes were first purified from cobra venom and have been known for over 100 years, only within the last 20 years has their importance in physiologic and pathologic proces ses been widely recognized. Meanwhile, overthe past 15 years, more and more studies have showed that iPLA2 was activated and played a significant role in myocardial ischemia and reper fusion (I/R). In this review, the functional role of iPLA2 in I/R is the focus.
