The objective of the HPM research is to improve the level of mathematics education through the application of mathematics history, which focuses on the combination of the research of mathematics history and mathematics education. The mathematics teachers in the view of HPM should carry out three kinds of ideological changes, that is mathematics outlook, teaching content and teaching methods. There exist at least two kinds of methods for applying the historical material of mathematics： to use original materials directly and to compile teaching materials suitable for classroom teaching.
