The basic knowledge of STL file format was described and then the conversion of the format was carried out for a pot component by using the Proe software. The precision of different numerical parameters was compared to study the key values of influencing the STL precision. The comparison analysis shows that the chord height and step length are the key parameters to determine the STL precision.
