In spite of being widely-used, the English delexical structure has not received sufficient attention in linguistic re- search. The paper aims at exploring its metaphorical motivation from the perspective of imaginative thinking which captivates embodied philosophy. Thestudy demonstrates that the delexical structure is primarily initiated by ontological metaphor and cat- egorial metaphor. In terms of ontological metaphor it is subject to perceived similarity between event and physical object while in view of categorial metaphor it is captive to conceptual transference from physical object to event. Furthermore, this structure witnesses a demetaphorizing process.
