Asymmetric addition of dialkyzinc to aldehyde was a successful method for synthesis of chiral secondary alcohols, which were valuable buildings blocks for pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals and natural products. Research developments in the asymmetric alkylation of aldehydes are reviewed according to different structure types of chiral ligands.
