Train ferry transportation is a traditional transportation mode that extends railway from land to water.Its historic progress is reviewed and the state of the art of the key technology in train ferry engineering is introduced;the gap between practical demands and existing technologies is analyzed.The technical subjects that need further researching are put forward.It is indicated that the key issue is to research and develop a new type of railway trestle or linkspan equipment that are more flexibil and convenient to use.The development trend of the technology is to form a sea-land integrated transportation system worldwide.
