Oral speech assessment in ESL context is viewed as one of the most important language learning and assessment elements to evaluate learner＂ abilities of using languages in real situation efficiently. This paper examines the issues of evaluation methods, task of speaking assessment, rating scales and principles and influential factors during assessment. Based on a critical review of past researches, this article identify the several possible research topics for future studies.
