The performance of the PEMFC single cells with dry-layer MPL and wet-layer MPL were investigated. The experiments indicate that the transport of liquid watedgas in GDL with dry-layer MPL is much better than that with wet-layer MPL, especially when the PEMFC is performed at high current densities. The surface morphology, hydrophobic characteristic of the surface and gas permeability of the GDLs with dry-layer MPL and wet-layer MPL were characterized, The results show good agreement with the experimental observations. The optimal value of PTFE content in dry-layer MPL is 30%.
