Objective To evaluate the effect of intervention of group training on college students depression, and to discuss how to carry out community interventions in colleges or universities. Methods The quasi-experimental design of before-after-design was adopted on experimental group and control group. Forty depressive students were involved in an seven-week-long cognitive coping community coaching. One week before, after the coaching and six months later, the students were asked to take three tests of Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), Attribution Scale (ASQ) measurement and simple coping style scale (SCSQ) measurement. Results ①After intervention of group training, the SDS scores of experimental group was reduced obviously, the experimental group pre-test scores was 60.54 ± 8.34 and pro-test scores was 49.64 ± 8.66. There was significant difference ( t = 3.44, P = 0. 003 ). But the control group pre-test scores was 48.82 ±13.04 and pro-test scores was 51.63 ± 11.42. There was no significant difference ( t =0.65, P = 0. 552). ②In terms of the SCSQ, on the positive response, the experimental group pre-test scores was 1.63 ± 0.48 and pro-test scores was 2.08 ± 0.37. There was significant difference ( t = 3.90, P = 0. 001 ). But there was no significant difference in the control group. ③In terms of the adjective word frequency and the confidence score, the experimental group had been greatly improved after the intervention. ④after six months, the intervention effect remained well. ⑤The depression degree of the experimented group had been reduced after intervention. Conclusions The intervention effect is ideal on depressed mood by group training. This training model is worthy for further exploration in other colleges.
