This paper established a basic framework of city trade areas. It systematically elaborated the evolution process from commercial enterprise,to trade areas,and to city trade areas system. This paper also discussed important researches on the degree of aggregation,the lower threshold and critical point of trade areas,the diffusion effect between new and old city trade areas and analysis tools on evolution.
