This paper studies the detailed mechanism of market space obstacle and policy orientation of effective upgrading of Chinese national equipment manufacturing industry in the framework of global value chain (GVC). This paper proves, as the dominant of buyer-driven GVC, international marquee buyer decides the optimal quality standard in its own perspective of profit maximization in procurement from consumption good producer in developing country. It increases the procurement price from consumption good producer when improving the quality standard, and its vertical price squeeze and choice of developed country market as target market helps its realization of optimal quality standard. When captured by international marquee buyer, consumption good producer in developing country is apt to choose imported machinery, and it is inevitable for national equipment and manufacturing industry to be faced with market space obstacle. To construct national value chain and improve the competition level in the end of value chain is helpful to break the market space obstacle of national equipment and manufacturing industry.
