The proposition of the construction of Xi＇an international metropolis, and the development of Xi＇an, is a milestone contribution to Xi＇an. As the world--famous oriental ancient capital, the planning and construction of Big Xitan should be developed on bases of the excellence tradition of urban planning. This paper, analyzed the urban development status and position of Xi＇an city from the vision of human habitat science, summed up the historical experiences of the ancient city design of Xitan, and the inspiration of the planning of Beijing, Paris and other famous cities, proposed that Xilan city should establish new city axis on the bases of continuing the existing city axis, develop new center, preliminarily studied the establishment of the benchmark of new axis, the functional positioning of central area and spatial design ide- as, and put forward the recommendations of the basic structure of future spatial order of human habitat of the great Xi＇an.
