This paper studies the conceptual and lingistic relationship betwen the word tian 天＇heaven,sky＇ and words representing heavenly phenomena in Chinese and genetically-related languages.In Sino-Tibetan languages and other natural languages,the word for heaven or sky can share a common origin with those representing the Sun,the Moon,cloud and rain.In addition,the Chinese word yu 宇＇universe,house＇ is closely related to its homophonic word yu 雨 ＇rain＇.
