Fang Qi＇ s The Last Tribal Song describs social life and historical process of the Tujia Aborigines who live in the area of the Three Gorges. On the one hand, the novel describes Tujia people＇ real life with a realistic writing style, on the other hand,it inserts a great deal of information of the ancient civilization and ancestral myths of Tujia. The mythical thinking is used to explain the real life and explore the code of Tojia culture. On this basis, the novel futher seeks for the root of culture with far-reaching vision Which takes witchery culture as a way of interpreting Chinese culture, completing a grand narrative and leaving a poetic ethnographic record of a faded cultural form.
