As the mainstay of theaters in Shanghai Island and the backbone of post-war theater move- ment, the Shanghai Theater Art Society could be called the banner of Shanghai＇ s theater in presence time, number of plays and performances, artistic character, and social impact. At the same time, Shang- hai Theater Art Society was, in a sense, a small but specific characterization of Chinese modern drama movement, and therefore should occupy a unique position in the history of drama.
