To improve the effects of the intensive reading teaching of the College English,the article discusses the Thematic Structure and the Thematic Progression of the Systemic Functional Grammar and applies them into the teaching practice.It proves that the Thematic Progression of a text indeed reflects its overall framework and that the application of the Thematic Theory into the intensive reading teaching of the College English is helpful to its overall effect.
