Given domestic and international situation, the importance of constructing new type university think tanks is self-evident. As a special type of think tank based on universities, university think tanks enjoy distinctive advantages compared with government and private think tanks. However, we need to properly consider the relationship between university think tanks and other university departments as well as government agencies; the relationship between fundamental research and applied research; the relationship between short-term and long-term research and the relationship between global and regional research.
