变通是翻译的基本属性。传统译论强调忠实,不太认可变通,但在翻译实践中变通却经常出现,甚至必不可少。在英汉互译中,由于两种语言结构及各自文化系统间存在着巨大差异的客观现实,变通既是文学翻译的本质属性,也是非文学翻译的本质属性。
英文摘要：
Variation is inherent in translation.Adapted translation is not much favored in traditional translation theory,which attaches importance to the principle of faithfulness.But,in fact,variation frequently occurs in translating practice and is deemed imperative in achieving the goal of communication.This paper argues that in the process of translation between English and Chinese,variation is the very nature of translation not only in the translating of literary texts but also in that of non-literary texts due to the great differences in the two languages and cultures.
