A facile and low cost method to form non-close-packed two-dimensional nanoparticle arrays without template was reported; carboxylic acid functionalized silica nanoparticles assembled on amine-terminated silicon substrate in N, N-Dimethylformamide (DMF) through electrostatic interaction. The amidation of nanoparticle arrays can enhance the stability in acidic and alkaline solutions, and the surface functional group can serve as a platform for further assembly.
