Two novel carbazole 3,6-diacetyl derivatives, 3,6-diacetyl-9-ethyl carbazole and 3,6-diacetyl-9-n-butyl carbazole, were synthesized by the reaction of N-alkyl carbazole and acetylcholine chloride through Friedel-Crafts reaction. Their structures were characterized by ^1H NMR, IR, MS and elemental analysis, and the electronic absorption spectra were analyzed.
