Based on carbazole molecular design, a new bis（β-diketone） compound, N-ethyl-3,6-bis （3-phenyl-1,3-oxopropyl） carbazole （3）, was synthesized and the structure was characterized by ^1H NMR, IR, MS and elemental analysis. The electronic absorption spectra of 3 were also measured.
