Short-chain fatty acids(SCFA),as an important energy source for animals, are the key signal molecules whose physiological functions and mechanisms have drawn great attention for a long time. Many studies had shown that the GPR41 and GPR43 proteins were the only two receptor specificity of SCFA. They could be mediated through SCFA,through the MAPK signal pathway,in regulating the body fat for- mation, function of white blood cells and physiological process in the animal gut playing an important role in the absorption of nutrients. This article reviewed the structures, tissue distribution, ligand selectivity and downstream signal passage of SCFA,GPR41 and GPR43 as well as the latest progress of the mediated physiological functions of SCFA.
