Magnesium matrix composites have great potential to be widely used in high performance aerospace and automobile industries because of their low density, high specific strength and modulus, high wear and temperature resistance and shock absorbing properties. The research in matrix alloys, reinforcements, fabricating techniques, microstructure and properties and applications is reviewed. The research status and new development of the magnesium matrix composites are also discussed.
