The research on water change characteristics of the formation and dissociation processes of methane hydrate in porous media is very important for understanding the formation and dissociation mechanism of natural gas hydrate in sediments. In this study, to study the water change characteristics of formation and dissociation of methane hydrate in non-saturated coarse sand and silty clay, a new pF-meter sensor which can detect water and temperature changes of soil was firstly applied to methane hydrate experiments. It was experimentally proved that water redistribution could be caused by the formation and dissociation processes of methane hydrate only in coarse sand and the methane hydrate in non-saturated silty clay was easier to form and dissociate than that in non-saturated coarse sand.
