Major progresses in mechanism investigations and methodology developments in femtosecond laser fabrication of microehannels are reviewed, especially for femtoseeond laser irradiation followed by chemical etching and liquid assisted femtosecond laser drilling. In addition, key challenges and possible future research trends are briefly discussed.
