Functional sentence and sentence mood are the basic concepts used most commonly in linguistics.Both work in the whole sentence but previous research frequently confused the two concepts. Sentence function is a kind of nonlinear syntactic feature,which acts on the whole sentence. By means of limited syntactic operation,the three sensitive positions of the sentence can be obtained by the expression of the surface structure.Sentence function has a syntactic function,which determines the nature of the sentence. The tone of the sentence is the expression of the speaker’s subjective feelings,which can only be expressed by mood words. Mood words can appear in phrases and clauses. The paper proves that sentence function and sentence tone are two kinds of syntactic categories.
