Nostromo is agreed upon most of Joseph Conrad's critics as his greatest novel. The novel conveys rich moral signifi- cance. Based on the ethical literary criticism, the ethical significance in the novel is explored by discussing Conrad's view of moral, the historical context of the novel's creation, and Nostromo's and Gould's moral degeneration because of the temptation of the material interests. Conrad shows us the serious consequence of degeneration of human beings' morality, and expresses his deep concern for moral issues.
