Licorice is one of the most commonly used drugs in traditional Chinese medicine. It is very widely used in medical, cosmetic and food applications by its diverse chemical constituents and strong pharmacological effect. Therefore, studies on licorice have attracted a lot of attention. The chemical constituents and functional characteristics of licorice were described, and the development trend were briefly described.
