A concise asymmetric synthesis of S-2-(4-isobutylphenyl) propionic acid (S-ibuprofen) has been achieved in 61% overall yield (over 4 steps) with 66% e. e. ,by using a catalytic asymmetric hydroboration of 1-isobutyl-4-(prop-l-en-2-yl) ben- zene as the key step.
