Neocortices develop through the neuroepithelial proliferation, neuronal differentiation and neuronal migration. The new proliferous postmitotic neurons migrate along radial glia and settle in cortical plate according to "inside-out" pattern. Cajal-Retzius cells play an important role in the development and lamination of neocortex. Reelin secreted by Cajal-Retzius cells acts as stopping signal and chemoattractant to the migrating neurons. The functions of reelin make the cellular and fibrous lamination of neocortex to become possible.
