This paper focuses on the concept and features of functional ionic liquid supported liquid-phase organic synthesis, and its application to the synthesis of small molecular heterocycles, peptides, oligosaccha- rides. The application of functional ionic liquid supported catalysts and reagents to liquid-phase organic synthesis is also described. As demonstrated in this paper, the functional ionic liquid could be used widely as novel soluble supports with high loading capacity in liquid-phase organic synthesis promoting the reactions effectively, simplifying the isolation operation, giving higher yields and selectivity as well.
