Durldaeim, a French famous educator and sociologist, propounded the theory of teacher authority, opening up a new perspective for education studies. Durkheim attempted to set up the authority of teacher with a view to carrying out moral education to children by means of the moral priority of teacher, the purpose of which was to socialize children and then stabilize society. This is a wonderful wish. After making an assessment of the theory of teacher authority, this paper makes an analysis of the eontribution and limitation of this theory, offering an orientation for the construction of scientific theory of teacher authority.
