The granular ore media before and after bacterial heap leaching were scanned with X-ray computed tomo- graphy (CT) technology. It is proposed that the pore topological ratio obtained can be used to evaluate pore connectivity based on the digital image processing. The evolvement of pore connectivity of granular ore media during heap leaching was then investigated. Research results show that the pore connectivity of granular ore media decreased dramatically after leaching, being deteriorated gradually from top zone to bottom zone. After leaching process, the horizontal pore connec- tivity of bottom zone decreased by 64% and 51%, respectively, compared with the same zone and top zone, while the vertical pore connectivity of bottom zone decreased by 38% and 42%, respectively. The pore connectivity of the granular ore media tends to be anisotropic both before and after leaching, with horizontal pore connectivity higher than vertical one. The anisotropy of pore connectivity is one of crucial factors that contribute to the anisotropy in permeability of granular ore media.
