Objective To measure the volume of the lentiform nucleus in Chinese adults of Han nationality,in order to provide database for researching on a variety of diseases associated with lentiform nucleus.Methods Totally 1000 volunteers（aged from 18 to 70） were recruited in this multi-center study and divided into 5 groups according to the age（18—30,31—40,41—50,51—60,61—80）.Each group included 100 men and 100 women.All the volunteers underwent MR examination using T1 weighted three-dimensional magnetization prepared rapid acquisition gradient echo sequence.The volume of lentiform nucleus was measured manually using 3D volume analysis software.The relationship between the volume of lentiform nucleus and age,as well as sex was analyzed.Results The mean volume of left and right putamen in 1000 volunteers were（4811.59±588.99）mm3 and（4763.11±587.59）mm3,and the volume of left putamen was larger than that of right putamen（t=10.134,P0.0001）.The mean volume of left and right globus pallidus were（1591.31±226.81）mm3 and（1627.28±235.06）mm3,and the volume of right globus pallidus was larger（t=-9.877,P0.0001）.The mean volume of left and right putamen and globus pallidus were（4962.72±598.49）mm3,（4909.83±600.54）mm3,（1623.24±234.16）mm3 and（1663.18±243.56）mm3,respectively for men,while for women were（4663.65±540.49）mm3,（4619.28±537.59）mm3,（1560.00±215.04）mm3 and（1592.09±221.06）mm3,respectively.Men had larger putamen and globus pallidus than women（all P0.0001）.The volume of the left and right putamen,as well as the left and right globus pallidus were all negatively correlated with age.Conclusion The volume of the left putamen is larger than that of the right,and the volume of the right globus pallidus is larger than that of the left.Men have larger lentiform nucleus than the women.The volume of lentiform nucleus loss with aging.
