It is a good method to improve the structure and function of artificial forest with the use of multi-use tree species. This paper introduces the experience of European countries especially Germany in application of Sorbus aucuparia as a multiuse tree species. Its geographic distribution, dendrological and ecological characteristics, economic value and the application potential in afforestation were described. It will be helpful for promoting the development of tree species selection, forest management and full use of nonmain species in China.
