The air-bubble curtain is commonly used as one of the fish controlling technique in marine ranching. In order to find out the standard of air-bubble curtain showing the best obstructing effect on Sebastes schlegelii and determine the adaption of this fish species to air-bubble curtain, indoor experiments were undertaken to investigate the intercepting effect of immovable air-bubble curtain on S.schlegelii.The bubble curtain was formed with a air pumped hard polyethylene pipe with a range of pores. The polyethylene pipe has two types, one has fixed pores of 0.5mm in diameter and 1.0,2.0,3.0,5.0and 10.0cm in interval, while the other has pores of fixed 2.0cm intervals and 0.2,0.5,0.8,1.0and 1.5mm in diameter. The result showed that(1)all the 9air-bubble curtains had a significant(tt0.01)intercepting effect;(2)the average obstructing rate of curtains with pores of fixed interval were 71.43%,95.24%,92.98%,53.85% and 80.14%,respectively,and the curtain with pores of2.0cm interval showed the best effect;(3)the average obstructing rate of curtains with the pores of fixed diameter was 96.03%,95.24%,82.05%,100% and 98.74%,respectively,and that of 1.0mm diameter was the best;and(4)the fish did not significantly(P〈0.05)adapted to air-bubble curtains with pores of both fixed interval and fixed diameter;however when air outlet distance was 2.0cm and air outlet diameter was 0.5mm within 4hour,fish showed significant(P〈0.05)adaption to the curtain. Our findings can provide references for using air-bubble curtain as a fish controlling technique in marine ranching.
