Urbanization is a major subject of social and economic development in contem- porary China. The paper examines existing issues in the current urbanization process, emphasiz- ing the fundamental importance of putting quality first and warning of the rash expansionism of urbanization in land use alone, while suggesting methodological innovation and reasonable ap- plication of land resources to embark on the road to an urbanization process with Chinese char- acteristics.
