This experiment was conducted to study the effects of the different particle size on pellet feed processing quality and growth performance of growing pigs. In this research, four kinds of apertures were used to crush raw material, so as to form 4 samples with different particle sizes, which were 595, 626, 758, 856 p,m, then tempered and pelleted the feed raw material. Eighty ' LargewhitexLandrancexDuroc' growing pigs with average body weight of (27.5±0.5) kg were allocated into four groups balanced for sex and body weight, with 5 replicates per group and 4 pigs per replicate. Pigs in 4 groups were fed four different diets, respectively. The duration of the experiment was 8 weeks. The result showed as follows: as the screen aperture increased from 1.5 to 3.0 mm, grinding energy consumption of raw material per ton was reduced from 7.41 to 4.36 kW · h. Starch gelatinization degree of 1.5 mm group was significantly higher than that of 2.5 and 3.0 mm group (P〈0.05), but with no significant difference with that of 2.0 mm group (P〉0.05). The crude protein digestibility in vitro of 2.0 mm group was significantly higher than that of 3.0 mm group (P〈0.05). Hardness of pellet of 1.5 mm group was significantly higher than that of the other groups (P〈0.05). During 1 to 4 weeks, average daily gain (ADG) of growing pigs of 2.0 mm group was significantly higher than that of the other groups (P〈0.05), the ratio of feed to gain (F/G) was significantly lower than that of the other groups (P〈0.05). In conclusion, when the aperture of grinder is 2.0 mm, feed quality and the growth performance of growing pigs are the best.
